Cryogel Thermal Energy Storage

CRYOGEL ( EREN Group ) was founded in 1986 in France and is specialized in energy storage solutions.

Base principle of Cryogel's Ice thermal storage systems ( TES ) : Produce thermal energy storage during off peak hours ( night ) Energy stored in 'ice containers' fitted in atmospheric tank (metallic / concrete). Energy is then discharged during peak hours ( day ) to match the high demand of cooling.

Main advantages :

  • Reduces capacity of the installation = lower capital and running costs
  • Shed peak and then shift the power consumption from on-peak to off-peak hours
  • Offers a compact storage solution (7-8 times smaller than chilled water :  highly reduced floor space )
  • Static and reliable storage ; Maintenance-free & over 25 years lifetime.
  • Fits in any kind of space (underground, with columns inside etc.) and shape,

Designed and suitable for large District cooling applications , the system was successfully installed in Kuala Lumpur City Center, Petronas towers DC for example.
